Waterstone's have recently started to feature a table of author's favourite and most influential reads which is a great way of exposing lesser known books to the reading public.
What are your favourite three books? Lets unearth some more classics!
1. Fugitive Pieces - Anne Michaels (and her new novel The Winter Vault is fantastic too). For her wonderful writing and imagination.
2. Gilead - Marilynne Robinson- Beautiful writing. Heartbreaking story.
3. Either Side of Winter - Benjamin Markovits. New York over four seasons and a cast of characters whose lives cross in ways they hadn't imagined..
I'm sure there's plenty more...

These are my favourites by the way..!
ReplyDeleteFor me it would be:
ReplyDelete1. Oscar and Lucinda by Peter Carey. Beautifully drawn characters, compulsive plot, humour and tears.
2. A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. A charismatic freak of a central character is led by his belief that his life has a special purpose, against the background of the Vietnam War.
3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I've read it every year or two since I was 12 and it just gets better. No film actor has ever been better than the Mr Darcy in my head.
Not even Colin Firth in the lake?! I must read Oscar and Lucinda. I've been meaning to for ages.
